Should I lubricate my slide-outs?

Yes, depending on the manufacturer. For some it is recommended that to keep the slide-outs moving smoothly they should be lubricated. Remember, there are different types of slide-outs so check your manufacturer for best practice.

To lubricate your RV slide-out, start by fully extending the slide-out to access the tracks and mechanisms. Clean the tracks and moving parts with a damp cloth or a dry brush to remove dirt, grime, and debris, as this ensures the lubricant works effectively.

Use a dry lubricant, such as silicone spray or a PTFE-based lubricant like CRC Power Lube or Protect-All Slide-Out Dry Lube, which prevents dirt and moisture buildup and avoids attracting road grime. Apply the lubricant to the rack and pinion gears, the track surfaces where they contact the gear, and any exposed cables or support arms, but avoid applying lubricant to the motor mechanism, gearboxes, or rubber seals.

For Schwintek slide-outs, manufacturers now recommend only cleaning and inspecting the tracks, as lubrication is no longer advised and can attract dirt that may interfere with operation. Always follow the specific recommendations for your RV model and slide-out system, and inspect seals regularly to maintain weatherproofing.
