Test the LP gas detector monthly.
For LP gas detectors, use the test button if available. If there is no test button, you can use an unlit butane lighter or a handheld propane detector to test the sensor by presenting the gas near the detector. Ensure there are no open flames or sources of ignition during this test. LP gas detectors should be tested before each trip and at least once per week during use.
Always test all detectors after a storage period, before each trip, and at least once per week during use. If the detector fails a test or shows signs of malfunction, such as a persistent alarm that won’t clear, check the battery or replace the unit. Remember that the test button only verifies the electronics, not the sensor’s ability to detect gas, so physical testing with gas or smoke is essential.
